The son of boyar Fyodor Nikitich Romanov (later - Patriarch of Moscow Filaret) and boyar Ksenia Ivanovna Romanova. He was the cousin of the last Russian tsar from the Moscow branch of the Rurik dynasty, Fyodor Ioannovich.

Princess Sofya Alekseevna was born into the family of Aleksey Mikhailovich and his first wife, Maria Ilinichna Miloslavskaya, and was the sixth child and fourth daughter among the sixteen children of Aleksey Mikhailovich.
John (Ivan) V Alekseevich (1666-1696) - Russian tsar in 1682-1696, from the Romanov dynasty. The son of Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich Quiet and Tsarina Maria Ilinichna, nee Miloslavskaya. Father of Anna Ioannovna, Empress of the Russian Empire.
Peter I the Great (Peter Alekseevich Romanov; 1672-1725) - the last tsar of All Russia and the first Emperor of All Russia (since 1721). From the Romanov dynasty (since 1682).
Peter was proclaimed tsar in 1682 at the age of 10, and began to rule independently in 1689.
