Prince Alexei Grigorievich Shcherbatov - General of Infantry, Adjutant General of the Moscow princes Shcherbatov.In 1812 Shcherbatov commanded the 18th Infantry Division in Tormasov's army. The division liberated the city of Brest-Litovsk from the enemy, and on July 15 by attack took Kobrin, where the Saxon brigade of General Klengel surrendered in full force. In honor of this first significant victory of the Russian troops, a salute was fired from the guns of the Peter and Paul Fortress in St. Petersburg.
For successful hostilities during the defeat of Napoleon's troops at Berezina, Shcherbatov was awarded the rank of lieutenant general. Soon he was appointed commander of the 6th Infantry Corps, which took part in many battles of the Russian army's overseas campaign.
The last five years of his life Shcherbatov was the Governor-General of Moscow.
