In the Russian-Turkish war of 1806-1812. bravely fought with the Turks at Bazardzhik, Shumla and Ruschuk.
During Napoleon's invasion of the Russian Empire, he served in the Olviopol hussar regiment, which was in the reserve of the Danube army of Admiral Pavel Vasilyevich Chichagov.
After the expulsion of the enemy from his native land, Shukhanov took part in the overseas campaign of the Russian army, in which he was awarded the Order of St. Vladimir, 3rd degree for the difference at Michelsdorf. Shukhanov's courage in the battle of Dresden was marked with a golden saber with the inscription “For Bravery”.
On September 15, 1813, he received the rank of major general. In this rank, he fought in the Battle of the Nations, in the battles of Weimar, and Keisau, battles at Frankfurt am Main.
