At the foot of Edinburgh Castle (Edinburgh, Scotland) there is a small Princes Street Park, and in its center stands the Ross Fountain, named after the philanthropist Daniel Ross, who bought it for the city. The fountain was erected in 1872 and shows sculptures of mermaids and four women, who represent science, art, poetry and industry.
