The parents of the Infanta Isabella Clara Eugenia were King Philip II of Spain and Elizabeth of Valois. For her mother, it was a difficult birth, after which she was on the verge of death for several days. Philip II, whom the sources of that time describe as a rather insensitive person, after giving birth announced that he was more pleased with the baby girl than if it was the heir to the throne. The Infanta lost her mother very early, when she was only two years old, she died after another unsuccessful birth.
