Scotland
Inverari Castle is a pseudo-Gothic castle with numerous turrets. It once belonged to the Campbell clan - the Dukes of Argyll. The castle was built in 1745 on the site of the 15th century ruins. The turrets were added after a fire in 1887.
The castle's extraordinary interiors serve as the backdrop for a huge collection of Middle Eastern and European porcelain, Regency furniture and portraits by Ramsay, Gainsborough and Raeburn.
Visitors are also invited to familiarize themselves with the guest salon, the tapestry hall, the Victorian hall, with its samples of antique furniture, interior, the richest collections of European and Oriental porcelain.
The Armory Room displays a collection of weapons collected by the Campbells to fight the Jacobites. The hall itself is considered the tallest room in Scotland (21 meters). The rays of light penetrating here through high window openings illuminate the collection of weapons: spears, swords, shields, even the banners and the drum have been preserved.
You can feel like a real prisoner of the 19th century by visiting the Inverari prison, which at the moment is practically an attraction. Indeed, within these walls, the criminals of Scotland were really kept and the atmosphere reigning here will help to plunge into history with your head.
