Roslin Alexander (Roslin Aleksander) - Swedish painter, portrait painter, who worked at the court of the Russian Empress Catherine II. In 1776-1777, at the highest invitation, he lived in St. Petersburg, painted in the Russian capital a portrait of Catherine the Great (in full growth, Peterhof), several portraits of the imperial family and representatives of the Russian aristocracy. His portraits of reigning persons were used for multiple copying, including by Russian portrait painters, for example, Rokotov. In his best portraits, Alexander Roslin combined the showiness and brightness of characterization with the masterly skill of the artist.
