The Rila Monastery is one of the symbols of Bulgaria. It is located in the Rila mountains at an altitude of 1147 m above sea level. The Rila holy monastery was created in the first half of the 10th century, and its history is connected with the first Bulgarian hermit St. John of Rila.
In 1983, UNESCO included this site on the List of World Cultural Heritage.
