The Sheikh Zayed Mosque in Abu Dhabi is the largest mosque in the United Arab Emirates and the sixth largest mosque in the world. It is named after Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, founder and first president of the United Arab Emirates, who is also buried there. The mosque was officially opened during the Islamic month of Ramadan in 2007. White marble and numerous inlays of precious and semi-precious stones were used during the construction. The internal area of the temple is 22,412 square meters. The main dome of the Grand Mosque, weighing 1000 tons, is also considered the largest temple dome in the world, and the mosque also has 80 domes in white marble. Swarovski crystal chandeliers, with their size and uniqueness, overshadow all ideas about the high cost as such ... The floor of the mosque is covered with the world's largest carpet! This masterpiece is sewn with an area of 5627 square meters and weighing 45 tons from 15 huge pieces. It took almost two years to create this giant carpet, keeping the warmth of the hands of thousands of Iranian needlewomen, who worked under the vigilant supervision of 50 experts.
