Edward Teach is a legendary English pirate. Because of his uncommon appearance and eccentric behavior, historians have made Teach one of the most famous figures during the "Golden Age" of Caribbean piracy. Teach served as the inspiration for the pirate Flint in the novel Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson. Teach's imitator, who called himself by the same name, is found in another Stevenson's work, The Master of Ballantrae. Several films have been made about the pirate.
