Sergiev-Posad.
Trinity-Sergius Lavra.
This is the first city on the route along the golden ring of Russia.
Sergiev Posad is named in honor of the Monk Sergius, who founded the largest monastery in Russia.
In the monastery, Ivan the Terrible was baptized, during the years of whose reign great importance was attached to the transformation of the monastery into a powerful fortress, which was of great importance on the outskirts of Moscow.
Under Peter I, the monastery still retained the importance of a royal fortress. In 1689, during the Strelets riot in Moscow, Tsar Peter took refuge behind the walls of the monastery.
