Balmoral is a castle in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, near the village of Crathy. Purchased by Queen Victoria in 1852; to this day it is one of the residences of the British royal family. Interestingly, Balmoral does not belong to the British crown, but is the personal property of the monarchs themselves.
