Jan van Haasteren was born on February 24, 1936, in Schiedam, Holland. As soon as little Yang learned to hold a pencil, he became interested in drawing. Jan studied well, but on the advice of his father, he continued his studies at the Academy of Arts at the Faculty of Advertising.
