Glozhensky monastery "St. George the Victorious ”is located near the village of Glozhen and is a cultural monument in the diocese of Lovech.
Unlike other Bulgarian monasteries, it is not hidden in the depths of mountain ranges, but rises like an ancient castle on top of the Balkan mountains.
The monastery was founded in 1224 by the Kiev prince George Glozh, who found refuge in these places during the Mongol-Tatar invasion of Russia. He brought with him the icon of St. George the Victorious, which became the main shrine of the monastery.
