Borovikovsky Vladimir
Vladimir Lukich Borovikovsky was born on July 24, 1757 in Mirgorod. He came from a Cossack family. His father and his older brothers were icon painters and worked in local churches. In 1787 he painted a couple of paintings for the “traveling palace” of Empress Catherine II. A year later he moved to St. Petersburg, in 1792 he began to take painting lessons from the artist Lampi Vladimir Lukich painted oil miniatures and portraits at the beginning of his career. In the genre of ceremonial portrait, he is very convincing. Many of his works serve as role models for artists. Borovikovsky painted many portraits. Among them are portraits of Empress Catherine II, as well as portraits of representatives of noble families.
