Borovikovsky Vladimir

Vladimir Lukich Borovikovsky was born into a family of icon painters. In 1787, he painted a couple of paintings for the "traveling palace" of Empress Catherine II. A year later he moved to St. Petersburg, took painting lessons from the artist Lampi, who worked under the empress herself. In the genre of ceremonial portrait, he is very convincing. Many of his works serve as role models for artists. Among the many works are portraits of Empress Catherine II, as well as portraits of representatives of noble families.
