Boudicca - Queen of the Icenes (26-61 AD) became the leader of a violent uprising against Roman rule. She led an army of 100,000 against the invaders, killing about 70,000 Romans. The Romans quickly suppressed the rebellion, defeating the undisciplined British in a brutal battle. Boudicca committed suicide in order not to be captured. Boudicca's status as monarch is officially recognized by British royal ancestry.
