Baron Saturday (Haitian Creole. "Baron Samedi") is the ruler of the cemetery and the patron spirit of all the dead (Voodoo). The first grave in the cemetery (if the deceased is a man) is always dedicated to him. The Baron loves life in all its manifestations - in a suit, in a hat and with a cane, he walks around the world, drinks rum, smokes cigars and swears obscenely. Sometimes, however, the Baron drinks a special tincture of forty burning herbs - and only he himself can withstand its taste. The Baron often wears dark glasses with one glass pulled out: with his left eye he looks at the world, and with his right eye he looks after his drink, no matter what anyone takes.
The Baron loves children almost as much as Life, and is always supportive of them ... however, sometimes he is very supportive in his own way. For his love of children and for his general friendliness towards people, he is called "Papa Gede".
