Staraya Basmannaya Street is a continuation of Pokrovka Street after crossing that street with the Garden Ring. Streets Ilyinka, Pokrovka, Staraya Basmannaya were the direct road of the Romanov boyars to their ancestral estates Izmailovskoe and Vozdvizhenskoe, and that road began from the Spasskaya Tower of the Moscow Kremlin. But Peter the First changed the usual rule and began to travel through Myasnitskaya and Novaya Basmannaya streets. And he even built the church of Peter and Paul, the lattice of which was forged according to his sketches. The painting depicts St. Basmannaya Street at the level of its intersection with Lukyanova Street, in the period from about the mid-80s of the 20th century. (The Decembrists Museum has not yet been restored.)
