The largest city in the United States, part of one of the largest metropolitan areas in the world. The population of the city is 8 405 837 people, the metropolitan area - 20.63 million. New York is located on the Atlantic Ocean in the southeastern part of New York. The city was founded at the beginning of the 17th century by Dutch colonists and until 1664 was called New Amsterdam.
