The Kiev-Pechersk Lavra is one of the first monasteries in Russia to be founded. Founded in 1051 under Yaroslav the Wise by the monk Anthony.
The imperishable relics of the saints of God rest in the Lavra in the Near and Far Caves. The relics of the Monk Elijah of Murom are kept here, who is often identified with the epic hero. Also on the territory of the Lavra is the grave of Pyotr Arkadievich Stolypin.
Currently, the Lower Lavra is under the jurisdiction of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate), and the Upper Lavra is under the jurisdiction of the national Kiev-Pechersk Historical and Cultural Reserve. UNESCO World Heritage Site.
