According to scientists, the Piedra de Penol rock is very ancient and its age is 70 million years. Local aborigines call the stone “Mojarra”, but it’s a stone, if you say “rock” to them they may not understand what you are talking about. They can tell you one of the legends about this stone, it says that many millennia ago, the Takhamis tribe lived here, the tribe was mainly engaged in fishing and worshiped some huge divine fish Batolito living in the local waters. And when hard times came and there was no catch at all, they presented her with offerings, among which were babies. And because of such a devoted love for the god Batolito, the other gods were angry with the Tahamis tribe and decided to punish them by dropping the sky on their heads, and when the tribe saw that the sky was very close, they began to pray to their god - the fish Batolito, who heard their prayers and jumped out of water stopping the falling sky with its ridge, but as soon as it touched the sky, it immediately turned into a block, turning away, thus, the trouble and the heavens returned to their place. Until now, people bring offerings to the stone as a token of gratitude for the salvation of their ancestors.
