Rock-stone "Peñon de Guatape"

In 1954, a group of friends, at the insistence of a local priest, climbed to the top of the cliff using a series of supports inserted into the crevices. These were the first people who managed to climb the summit of El Peñon de Guatapé. The climb took 5 days, but the top of the cliff opened up magnificent views, and a new plant species, Pitcairma heterophila, was discovered. In order to make the ascent to the top of the cliff easier, first a rope ladder was lowered from the top to the ground, and later a stone zigzag ladder was built, which is very similar to lacing a rugby ball, if you look from a certain place on the rock, it is really very similar ... The staircase consists of 649 stone steps and this is the only way to climb up. Since the rock is completely smooth, the staircase is built in a long crack, which just leads to the top of Piedra de Penol, this kind of lack of rock was used with benefit, and now everyone can climb up and look at the magnificent view that opens from the top ...
