They are known since the 17th century as the Pogany Pond (waste from the nearby butcher shops and slaughterhouses was dumped into it). The Rachka River flowed out of the pond, flowing to the south and flowing into the Moscow River. At the beginning of the 18th century, Pogany Pond became part of the Moscow estate of A.D. Menshikov, was cleaned out and since that time has been named Chisty Prud or Chistye Prudy.
