Bryullov Karl
Karl Bryullov was born in St. Petersburg on December 23, 1799 in the family of a sculptor of French origin Pavel Bryullo. At the age of 16 he was enrolled in the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts without exams. Bryullov is the only Russian artist who was awarded a laurel wreath and a diamond ring from the hands of Emperor Nicholas I during his lifetime. "The last day of Pompeii" he was called "the first brush of the state." Bryullov created more than 200 ceremonial and chamber portraits and painted the dome of St. Isaac's Cathedral with an area of 800 square meters.
