Architectural and park complex "Palace" in Balchik. The "Palace" is the former summer residence of the Romanian queen Maria Alexandrina Victoria de Edinburgh, located 2 km southwest of the Bulgarian town of Balchik in a beautiful area between the rocks and the sea.
In 1924, the queen came to Balchik, and remained fascinated by the incredible beauty of this place and the beautiful view of the Black Sea. At this time, the city and all of southern Dobrudja are within the borders of neighboring Romania. The Queen decided to build her summer residence on this site, buys land in the region along with the abandoned mills and begins construction of the residence, which Maria named "Tenha Juve" (Quiet Nest).
The residence was designed by the Italian architects Amerigo and Augustino in 1924. It is designed as terraces descending to the shore by steps, along which water from two springs flows down special stone channels and forms water mirrors and waterfalls.
Chapels, courtyards, parks and buildings were made here in a variety of styles - typical Bulgarian, Byzantine, Arabic, Moorish and Transylvanian.
The park along the coast was designed by Swiss park designer Jules Jani. Christian and Muslim symbols are visible here on wells and in gardens, and flowers and decorative jugs and amphorae for gardens were bought in different parts of the world.
