Artist Pal Fried (1893-1976) was born in Hungary in Budapest. He studied the art of drawing at the Hungarian Academy and in Paris with Claude Monet, Lucien Simon and was greatly influenced and impressed by the French Impressionist school, in particular by Renoir and Degas. In 1947, after World War II, the artist emigrated to America, where he taught at the Academy of Arts in New York. Pal Fried developed his own unique style. In the 1950-60s, the artist lived and worked in Hollywood, where he gained popularity. Pal Fried specialized in portraits, painting high society ladies. The collections of many museums around the world contain his paintings on the themes of ballet and theater: these are portraits of dancers before performances, on stage, in bohemian life. The canvases were so popular that he was forced, as the customers wanted, to duplicate the same plot several times, changing only the color of the suit or the background of the canvas.
