France. Saumur Castle is located on the historical road of the Valley of the Kings, in the city of Saumur, at the confluence of the Loire and Thue rivers. The medieval fortress of the XIII century, rebuilt by Louis the Holy and became the castle-palace of the last dukes of Anjou, Saumur rises majestically above the Loire on a rock, which the locals call “emerald”. Alternately, the castle was the residence of the city's rulers, a prison and an arsenal of ammunition, and since 1912 the monument has become a municipal museum. Important restoration work carried out over the past 12 years continues to this day, so access to some of the castle's halls is closed.
