The Hundertwasser House is a residential building in Vienna, designed by the Austrian artist and architect Friedensreich Hundertwasser. The house represents the realization of the artist's dreams and reflects his life views and beliefs.
Hundertwasser believed that there are no straight lines and angles in nature, so the House has uneven walls and uneven floors, reminiscent of forest paths, and all corners (window sills, door frames, window openings) are rounded. The roof of the house, which resembles a snail-like rise, is planted with greenery - trees and bushes. Trees have been planted in some of the rooms, the so-called "tenant trees".
Each apartment has its own color on the facade of the house, and there are no windows of the same shape and size.
In the Hundertwasser House, every tenant can change the appearance of the House. The rule of an outstretched hand applies here: leaning out of his unique window, the tenant has the right to draw, paste, write, or paint the walls where his hand can reach.
The artist believed that everyone should feel like a king in their home, therefore, a crown is depicted above each window of the House.
