Portrait of Carlos III as a child

Carlos III (1716 - 1788) - the son of King Philip V and Isabella Farnese - from 1731 Duke of Parma, from 1734 under the name of Charles VIII - King of Naples and Sicily. After his half-brother Ferdinand VI died without leaving an heir (1759), Carlos III came to the Spanish throne. This picture is a fine example of a court portrait for children. Carlos, fascinated by his botanical research, is depicted in a magnificent palace setting.
