Burresheim Castle is one of the very rare ancient monuments that have completely preserved their original appearance. It was never captured by enemies, robbed or destroyed. In our time, it is almost unthinkable to find an ancient castle that has stood alone for several hundred years, surrounded by almost virgin nature, among streams and wooded mountain slopes. The Burresheim Castle is located to the west of Koblenz in the mountainous region of the Eifel country. The castle was founded in the 12th century and changed owners quite often. After many judicial vicissitudes, in 1659 the imperial court ruled that the Breidbach-Burresheim dynasty, which gave Germany many famous people, was considered the owners of the castle. Representatives of this dynasty owned the castle for almost 220 years and worked fruitfully to decorate it. In 1948, Bürresheim Castle was taken over by the state administration of the Rhineland-Palatinate castles.
Interesting fact: the blockbuster "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade" was filmed in Burresheim. The castle "played" the role of a kind of dungeon, where the father of the protagonist was kept in captivity.
