Church of St. John Chrysostom in Godenovo

On the edge of the Yaroslavl region, 15 kilometers from the village of Petrovsk, located on the Moscow-Yaroslavl highway, in the half-abandoned village of Godenovo, a beautiful stone church in the name of St. John Chrysostom rises on a hill. This temple belongs to the courtyard of the Pereslavl women's monastery. It contains great Orthodox shrines - the Life-giving Cross of the Lord, which appeared from heaven, and the miraculous icon of Nicholas the Pleasant. The cross was found, according to legend, in the 15th century: the shepherds saw a pillar of light in the swamp, and in it a cross hung in the air. Not far from this place, they began to build a church, but she herself miraculously moved to an island that appeared out of nowhere in a swamp. Since the acquisition of the Life-giving Cross, many miraculous phenomena have been associated with it. Many of them are told by pilgrims arriving in Godenovo from all over the world. The priests record in a special book all miracles, all cases of healing from ailments that have occurred over the years. The shrine has permanent access, but the most revered day here is June 11 - the day of the descent of the Cross to earth.
