The neo-Gothic Casa Loma castle appeared on the northwestern outskirts of Toronto in the early 20th century. It was then that Sir Henry Pellat, a wealthy industrialist and broker, bought a piece of land there, which he gave to build his dream castle house.
The work took several years and about 3.5 million Canadian dollars, about the same amount cost the interior decoration. The decoration of the building was not completed - this was prevented by the First World War. But even in its unfinished form, it is an example of luxury and almost royal proportions. This is the largest private house in Canada - there are as many as 98 rooms in the castle! Among them, a large library, a 2-story organ, labyrinths and secret passages - all that really make the house look like a mysterious castle, as intended by Pellot.
Over time, the owner went bankrupt, the castle was abandoned, but later passed into the possession of the municipality. Now it houses a museum with an exhibition about the life of Henry Pellot and his wife. Also, celebrations of public and private events are often held here, and even films are filmed.
As it should be, the castle is surrounded by a garden; the property also has stables and a hunting lodge.
