On the banks of the Elbe is the beautiful Pillnitz Castle, which at one time served as the summer residence of the Saxon Elector and the Polish king Augustus the Strong. This castle was built in the twenties of the eighteenth century. The palace was designed by Peppelman. The palace complex consists of two buildings - the Water Palace and the Mountain Palace. At the beginning of the nineteenth century, the so-called New Palace was erected, which connected the first two. Near the Water Palace there is a gorgeous garden called Lustgarten. It is a giant park with a greenhouse and many pavilions. The park's greenhouses are designed in two styles - English and Chinese. Today the Museum of Crafts is located in the Mountain Castle. Its exposition includes furniture, glass and textiles, faience products from Denmark and France, and stone products.
