Temple of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God in Irkutsk

The temple of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God was built in 1892 and to this day stands out sharply against the background of other religious buildings of the city. The temple dominates the surrounding low-rise buildings and plays an important city-forming role. Kazan Church resembles a fairytale tower with its whimsical decoration in the Byzantine style. Serves as the Cathedral of the Irkutsk diocese. The people called him "Red" not for the color of the walls, but for the colossal and beauty. Its belfry contains the largest bell in the capital of the Angara region, weighing 4.5 tons, and inside the church is decorated with majestic frescoes. A unique iconostasis has been installed in the Irkutsk Church of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God. It is carved from rare Indian coffee red granite. The weight of the structure is 70 tons, the height is 13 meters. Craftsmen from China worked on it for three years. Work on the new iconostasis ended in 2012. The restoration of the entire temple lasted from 1990 to 2012, now the temple is in its original form.
