Konstantin Alayalov, painter, illustrator and cartoonist, was born in Rostov, painted murals and posters for the Soviet government. Then he lived in Persia for some time, and in 1923 he immigrated to the United States of America. He entertained several generations of readers of The New Yorker, Vogue and other publications with his funny, naturalistic cartoons.
Taught drawing lessons and contemporary art and illustrated many books. His work is in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, the Brooklyn Museum and other institutions.
