While the caravan of Bactrian camels passes through the huge main gates of Bianjing, wealthy townspeople, on horseback or in carts, arrive at a wine shop, whose windows are draped (top left). There, meetings of the urban elite take place on the two upper floors. Where the barrels of the liquor store are, a man topless is pulling on a bow.
Kaifeng is a city of commerce, where many distant caravans flock and literally everyone was hired to protect them - right on the street and in order to be hired as a caravan guard, you had to draw a bow.

The scroll breaks off from the left, in stark contrast to the compositional style of the rest of the image. this leads researchers to believe that part of the scroll has been lost. Older copies, including the canonical Minsk one, end with a scene of the palace, which suggests that the scroll originally continued quite far to the left and ended with the imperial palace.
