Hohenwerfen Castle is located near the Austrian city of Werfen. This is the land of Salzburg. It was built on a hill 155 meters high and was of defensive importance for the main city of the land - Salzburg. The castle looks like an absolutely impregnable fortress, thanks to the favorable location between the hills overgrown with forest and the Salzach River.
The construction of the castle began in the 11th century during the reign of Prince Gebhard of Salzburg, then the castle was rebuilt many times, strengthened and expanded its territory. Hohenwerfen castle changed its owners many times, was sold and bought, fell into the hands of the French Napoleonic army, burned. Finally, already in the 20th century, after almost fifty years it was used as a training camp for local police, it received the status of a museum.
