One of the sights of Ireland is Kylemore Abbey. The castle is located in a picturesque corner of Galway, on the lake.
The magnificent palace was built in 1871 by Mitchell Henry for his wife Margaret. The dimensions of the castle are impressive - the estate occupied an area of about 13 thousand acres, on which were laid out gardens, a park, a subsidiary farm and the palace itself, which houses more than 70 rooms.
The family was replenished with children, and the couple lived wonderfully in the palace furnished with love. However, in 1874, Margaret Henry dies, followed by their daughter. The unhappy husband and father are no longer able to stay where he was so happy with his wife. In memory of the deceased wife, near the castle, Mitchell erected a church, which was decorated not by chimeras and gorgons, but by smiling angels.
In 1903, Henry sold the castle to the Duke and Duchess of Manchester, who had lived there for only a few years. For the debts, the duke was forced to sell the castle to a London banker, who did not particularly need this structure.
As a result, in 1920 Benedictine monks settled in the castle and turned the palace into a monastery. The manor house was put in order, the castle was restored, and in 1993 the abbey was opened to the public.
