Schackenborg Castle is located in the southern part of Denmark, five kilometers from the small village of Megeltenner. The building was built of red brick at the beginning of the 13th century for the Bishop of Ribe. The main function is defensive, protecting the shipping lanes leading to Tenner.
In 1661, the fortress was presented to Field Marshal Count Hans Schak for his military services. In the 17th century, the castle acquired a new look. Three wings were completed in the Baroque style, the walls from the courtyard were decorated in the Rococo style.
Today, Schackenborg Castle is the seat of Prince Joachim, the second son of the Danish queen. Nearby there is a cozy park, laid out in the 18th century, with cozy shady alleys. Guided tours are held in the palace during the summer.
