Germany
Moritzburg Castle is named after Elector Moritz of Saxony, who built this castle in the 16th century.
The castle underwent a major rebuilding in the 18th century, when the Elector Augustus the Strong ordered to transform the castle into a modern style for those times. Many pavilions were built near the estate (for example, the Pheasant House).
Now the castle offers visitors a fascinating journey through its Baroque-style premises, with many paintings, works of applied art, collections of hunting rifles, trophies with the world's largest antlers, the owner of which was killed in 1696 in the forests near Frankfurt. Trophies and weapons speak volumes about Moritz's passion for hunting.
Also in the castle there is a lot of furniture made of fine wood, a collection of Japanese and Chinese porcelain vases and sets.
