Ireland
Ashford Castle is one of the finest and most elegant castles in Ireland. The castle was built on the site of an Anglo-Norman house in 1228. For three and a half centuries, it belonged to the Burgos family. After this, the castle brought discord between the forces of the knight John de Burgh and Sir Richard Bingham. After the warring parties came to an agreement in 1589, Richard Bingham became the owner of the castle. Later, he significantly strengthened the walls of the castle.
In 1670, Dominic Brown took over the castle and hunting lodge, built in the 17th century. Over the centuries, more than one owner has changed in the castle, and only Noel Huggard opened a hotel in it in 1910. Ashford Castle has been constantly expanding and has evolved over time into a luxurious five-star hotel. He is a member of the Leading Hotels of the World. Today it is one of the best hotels in Ireland.
