The reign of the Ming dynasty lasted from 1368 to 1644, and of the 16 emperors of this dynasty, 13 lie in these tombs with their empresses and concubines.
At the beginning of the 15th century, the third emperor of the Ming dynasty, Yongle (永樂), moved the capital to Beijing. Simultaneously with the construction of the Imperial Palace, he began to build his own tomb, the place for which was chosen the famous valley near the Tianshoushan mountain.
