Meyderslot Castle is one of the well-preserved medieval buildings, built in the 13th century and located 15 kilometers southeast of Amsterdam in the small village of Maiden. Müderslot Castle looks fabulous and graceful, and it is located at the mouth of the Vecht River, which flows into the bay of Lake IJsselmeer. The castle was built in 1280 by Count Floris V to collect duties from merchants. In 1296 the count was assassinated by his own vassals. At that time, the castle looked the same as it does now: high walls, around - a deep moat and a plum garden immediately behind it.
In 1609, Peter Cornelis Hooft became the new owner of Maiderslot and marked the beginning of the castle's "golden age". Theatrical plays were staged here, music was played, songs were performed, and there was an art society here that went down in history under the name of Maiderkring. In the 18th century, Maiderslot served as a prison for a short time. The castle is now a state museum.
