Sangaste Castle is located in southern Estonia, in Valgamaa County. The castle was originally called in the German Sagnitz manner and has been known since the 1500s as the seat of the Dorpat bishop. True, soon nothing remained of that building - endless wars in these places did their job.
Later, a manor house appeared here again, which was owned by the noblemen of Bergi. It was one representative of this family - Friedrich Berg - who decided to build a castle after the Windsor model after visiting England. Count Berg died in Sangast in 1938. After his death, the castle stood empty, part of the property was stolen. In the 1960s, a pioneer camp was opened here. Now there is a hotel in the castle. There are projects for capital restoration and opening of a tourist center.
