France celebrates the birthday of its champagne on 4 August. The French claim that it was on August 4, 1668 that the monk Pierre Perignon invented this sparkling drink. As a housekeeper at the Abbey of Hauteville, located in the heart of Champagne, Father Pierre Perignon was in charge of food supplies and a cellar, and in his spare time he was engaged in experiments in the production of various wines.
On August 4, 1668, Perignon presented a wonderful drink to the surprised brethren: silvery bubbles with a quiet rustle rose from the bottom of the glass, transparent foam sparkled as if alive. This sparkling wine is the progenitor of modern champagne. Pierre Perignon was not only the first to make champagne, but also suggested that instead of the usual oiled stick cork at that time, use a cork cork, which is still used today. Although the invention of champagne was dated August 4, 1668, a description of the technology for its production was published only in 1718 by Abbot Fedino, canon of Reims Cathedral.
