The amazing French village La Roque-Gageac is located on the banks of the Dordogne River in the southwest of Aquitaine in the Dordogne department. It adheres tightly to the rock, which perfectly shades it from the northern winds, allowing the beautiful southern vegetation to thrive.
The settlement has existed here since time immemorial, interesting drawings on the stones were left by primitive people. In the ninth century, settlers hid here from the Normans, and in the twelfth century a large cave forty meters high was built, which became a complex system of defensive structures.
At the western end of the village there is a local landmark - the beautiful Château de la Malartrie, as well as the estate of the Italian botanist and friend of Galileo Giovanni Tarde. La Roque-Gageac has become one of the most beautiful French villages due to its picturesque nature and special local color.
