Schwerin, with less than 100,000 inhabitants, is the smallest federal state capital in Germany. The city is located in the middle of a picturesque lake landscape, which reflects the clouds floating across the northern sky. The symbol of Schwerin is the Schwerin Castle, light, airy, light and welcoming, like the city itself. It, as befits a self-respecting fairytale castle, is located on an island between the Schweriner See and Burgsee lakes. In the vicinity of the castle, special attention should be paid to the Schlossgarten castle park, the State Museum, the Siegeszoile obelisk (German victory column), the Old Palace, the palace manege and stables, as well as the building of the state chancellery, designed in the classicism style. The performances of the Mecklenburg State Theater are winning the hearts of culture lovers. The undisputed culmination of Schwerin's cultural life is the Schlossfestspiele opera festival. The scope of the festival and its international fame are growing every year. Worthy of the title of the capital and the museums of Schwerin, especially the complex of State museums. In the Gallery of Old and New Masters, a collection of paintings by Flemish and Dutch masters of the 16th - 18th centuries is adjacent to the works of contemporary artists. Schwerin Castle is included in the list of the most significant buildings in European history.
