Holy Dormition Pochaev Lavra - Orthodox monastery (Lavra) in Pochaev (Ternopil region), Ukraine. The largest Orthodox church complex and monastery in Western Ukraine and the second after the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra. According to legend, the monastery was founded by monks of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, who fled from the invasion of the Tatars in 1240. The first mention in chronicles dates back to 1527. The Pochaev Lavra is one of the three most beautiful Orthodox monasteries in Eastern Europe. Perhaps, you will not find another such monastery, about the beauty and wonders of which so many legends would circulate. This ancient monastery is marked by the special presence of the Mother of God and the Grace of the Lord: here the Blessed Virgin left her footprint on the rock; the great ascetic of Orthodoxy, the Monk Job of Pochaev, asceticised at the monastery; this land was glorified throughout the world by the miraculous Pochaev icon of the Mother of God.
