The Commandant (Kolymazhnaya) Tower received its first name in the 19th century, when the nearby Amusement Palace became the residence of the commandant of Moscow, the second comes from the nearby Kolymazhny Dvor. It was built in 1495 by the Italian Aleviz Fryazin. It is located on the northwestern side of the Kremlin wall, which today stretches along the Alexander Garden.
